ROOTS and ipVerse Jointly Deliver Softswitch Solutions for Asia Pacific Markets

Singapore -- September 6, 2001 -- ROOTS Communications signed a reseller agreement with ipVerse, the leading supplier of open softswitch solutions bridging voice and packet-based networks, to bring softswitch solutions to service providers throughout the Asia Pacific region. By continuing to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific region, ipVerse is meeting service provider demand to quickly deploy converged voice and data services and evolve traditional voice networks to a packet-based infrastructure.

Under the agreement, ROOTS will market and sell ipVerse's open softswitch platform, ipVerse ControlSwitch, in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China and Australia. ROOTS will also have access to ipVerse's Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to develop customized applications on ipVerse's platform to fulfill local market specifications.

"We are seeing strong demand for converged network solutions from carriers in the Asia Pacific region. It is critical to form strong partnership with resellers and application developers in Asia, such as ROOTS, to effectively deliver tailored softswitch solutions that meet the specific requirements for each country within the region,"said Amit Chawla, VP Marketing, ipVerse. "Our agreement with ROOTS is an important part of our strategy to forge relationships with well-established distribution partners in key markets around the globe."

"Our alliance with ipVerse, the pioneer in the softswitch market, will enable ROOTS to better leverage its regional market expertise and application development strength. Together, we can deliver market leading converged communication solutions to fulfill demands for the vast Asia Pacific market,"said Koh Nai Lip, VP and General Manager, ROOTS Communications.

To support vigorous research and development efforts in the field of next generation network solutions, ROOTS plans to set up a softswitch lab in Singapore that is modeled after ipVerse's labs in the U.S. This lab will be used to develop customized solutions meeting the needs of carriers in the region and to effectively support customer deployment on an ongoing basis.

ROOTS builds on ipVerse's existing partnerships in Asia, including its development partnership with NTT Comware to jointly develop and market ipVerse ControlSwitch-based solutions to Japanese service providers, and its reseller agreement with major Japanese trading company, Nissho Iwai.
